Abstract: Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) store hydrogen through reversible chemical processes, but converting this energy back into electricity is challenging. Electrochemically active LOHCs (EC-LOHCs) can be used directly in fuel cells to improve efficiency. This study reveals the active state of Pt-Ru catalysts for isopropanol electro-oxidation. We show that surface science approaches can optimize these catalysts for improved performance.
