Abstract: HCNO, fulminic acid, has fascinated chemists since its discovery over 200 years ago. Most recently, HCNO has also become of interest for astrochemistry due to its detection in interstellar space in 2009. In my PhD thesis, which I completed in the group of Prof. Ingo Fischer in Würzburg, we wanted to elucidate the processes induced in HCNO by absorption of interstellar radiation. In this article, I describe in detail our findings regarding the dissociative photoionization of HCNO.
