Abstract: Processes at electrochemical interfaces are crucial in electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices which are critical for the energy transition towards more sustainable technologies. At these interfaces, typcially electrochemical double layers form. In this contribution, our current understanding of the structure of these double layers is briefly reviewed, but also the driving force for their formation is addressed.
