Abstract: Lead halide perovskites are raising concern due to their toxicity, initiating Pb-free substitutes for light harvesting and emission. Cs3Bi2I9 exhibits efficient visible light absorption and slow hot carrier cooling. Luminescent 2D tin halide and Cs2AgInCl6 double perovskites show promise for white LEDs. However, limited carrier diffusion, structural instability, or poor emission hinder their extensive use. Solving these challenges is vital for unlocking the full potential of Pb-free perovskites.
