Abstract: Ionic Liquid Crystals is an emerging, fascinating class of materials, in which the properties of ionic liquids are combined with the nature of anisotropic liquid crystals. Basic research highlights that this soft matter might have a bright future in a broad range of topics such as new electrolytes for energy applications, sensors or waste water purification.
